The OPA2206 is the next generation of the industry standard OPAx277 family with the added feature of input overvoltage protection. The device is a precision bipolar, e-trimmed operational amplifier with a super beta input. The device uses TI's proprietary trimming technique to achieve an input bias voltage of ±2µV (typ) and an input bias voltage drift of ±0.04µV/°C (typ). Input overvoltage protection activates when the input signal exceeds the supply range and provides protection against 40 V of either supply. This feature eliminates the need for external cumbersome circuitry to prevent damage to the amplifier.

Designed in a bipolar process, the OPA2206 can deliver an ultra-high-speed power ratio of 3.6 MHz with only 220µa. The device also achieves a low voltage noise density of only 8 nV/√ at 1 kHz. Thanks to the super beta input, the OPA2206 has a very low input bias current of 100 pA (typ) and a current noise density of 110 fA/√Hz.

The high performance of the OPA2206 makes this device ideal for systems that require high accuracy and low power consumption, such as high-density analog input modules in programmable logic controllers, field and portable instrumentation systems, and source-measure units. The OPA2205 is a related product with the same op amp core, without input protection, but with improved broadband noise (7.2 nV/√Hz).
