The MP1584 is a high frequency step-down switching regulator with an integrated internal high-side high-voltage power MOSFET. It provides the output current mode control of Figure 3A with fast loop response and easy compensation.
The wide 4.5V to 28V input voltage range accommodates a variety of step-down applications, including those in the comfort of an automobile, where a 100µA quiescent operating current can utilize battery-powered applications.
The high power conversion efficiency over a wide load range is narrowed to achieve switching frequency under light load conditions to reduce switching and gate drive losses.
Frequency foldback helps prevent inductor startup and runaway shutdown during thermal current to provide reliable, fault-tolerant operation.
By switching at 1.5MHz, the MP1584 can prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise problems such as those found in AM broadcast and ADSL applications.
