The HDC2080 device is an integrated humidity and temperature sensor in a small DFN package that provides high accuracy measurements at ultra-low power consumption. This capacitive sensor includes new integrated digital functions and a heating element to dissipate condensation and moisture. The HDC2080 digital functions include programmable interrupt thresholds, thus providing alerts and system wakeups without the need for a microcontroller to continuously monitor the system. At the same time, HDC2080 also has programmable sampling interval, low power consumption, and supports 1.8V supply voltage, so it is very suitable for battery-powered systems.

The HDC2080 provides high-precision measurement capabilities for a variety of environmental monitoring and Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as smart thermostats and smart home assistants. For designs with smaller printed circuit board (PCB) areas, a smaller chip scale package (CSP) option is available by using the HDC2010, which is fully software compatible with the HDC2080.
For needs with tight power budget constraints, the HDC2080 can automatically turn on temperature and humidity measurements through an automatic measurement mode. With this feature, the user can configure the microcontroller into deep sleep mode, as the HDC2080 no longer needs to rely on the microcontroller to start the measurement process.
The HDC2080 has programmable temperature and humidity thresholds, so a hardware interrupt can be sent to wake up the microcontroller when needed. In addition, the HDC2080 consumes significantly less power, which helps minimize self-heating and improves measurement accuracy.
The HDC2080 is factory calibrated at 0.2°C and 2% for temperature accuracy and relative humidity accuracy, respectively.
