Socionext and Zongxing Technology and Techsor jointly develop a new generation of ZETA communication chips - the latest research and development, unique

SoC design and application technology leader Socionext Inc. (hereinafter "Socionext"), together with ZETA standard founding company of LPWA (Low Power Wide Area Network) Zongxing Technology and ZETA Japan Alliance's representative director company Techsor announced that they will jointly develop "Advanced M- A new generation of ZETA communication chips based on FSK modulation method.

The new generation of ZETA communication chip adopts the new "Advanced M-FSK modulation method" communication baseband technology advocated by Zongxing Technology and Socionext's unique RF technology and digital modulation/demodulation technology. Compared with the original 2FSK technology, the chip's transmission rate is increased by more than 20 times in typical LPWA scenarios, and the sensitivity is increased by more than 10dB, even if it is powered by a printed battery and applied to objects moving at a speed of 60km/h , can also achieve an effective communication distance of 3-5km.

High-performance ZETA LPWA through "Advanced M-FSK modulation method"

In the IoT era, various wireless technologies on the market are intertwined. Among them, LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) wireless technology has undoubtedly become an important communication basis for the realization of sensor networks. Its advantages are long communication distance (up to 3-15km) and low power consumption (battery-powered service life of up to 3-5 km). year). But at the same time, LPWA also has problems such as low communication rate, difficulty in covering and monitoring moving objects. Facing this issue, Zongxing Technology has developed the "Advanced M-FSK modulation method", which improves the physical layer of ZETA's wireless communication modulation/demodulation processing. The new method is compatible with common low-order FSK modulation method standards and low-cost RF components in the market, meeting basic low-cost LPWA communication requirements. In addition, it also increases the FSK modulation order (for example, to 256), and combines special communication coding technology and pilot detection technology to improve the transmission range and transmission rate of low-power communication signals.

The simulation test results show that, compared with the typical ZETA method and other LPWA standards, the ZETA technology using the "Advanced M-FSK modulation method" can increase the transmission speed by more than 20 times and the sensitivity by more than 10 dB. The highest receiving sensitivity can be achieved in an ideal environment. up to -150dbm.

In addition to the Advanced M-FSK modulation method, the physical layer of the newly developed ZETA communication chip adopts Socionext's original RF technology and digital modulation/demodulation technology, which can realize the large-scale application of high-performance, low-power IoT hardware.

It is reported that the new generation of SoC jointly developed this time will be designed and prepared for tape-out in Q1 of 2021.

Teraki Tanigawa, Director of Socionext's Automotive and Industrial Business, said: "Following the last announcement of the ZETag SoC collaboration, we have leveraged the company's strengths in cutting-edge SoCs and high-performance RF/digital modulation/demodulation technologies to create the next-generation ZETA Advanced M-FSK Modular. The new method provides a substantial improvement in performance compared to ZETA achieved by the conventional 2FSK modulation method. The company expects to advance IoT mass adoption by enabling wireless technologies that outperform other LPWAs.”

"I am very much looking forward to the cooperation with Socionext," said Dr. Zhuoqun Li, CEO of Zongxing Technology. "Together, we will realize a higher level of ZETA wireless technology by implementing the concept of a high-performance ZETA physical layer, which is the application of basic R&D results to specific commercial products. A typical case of ZETA. By applying Advanced M-FSK technology, ZETA will be ahead of other LPWA technologies at both the network architecture level and the physical layer, thereby further promoting the popularity of ZETA technology.”

Techsor CEO Zhu Qiang said: "Following the joint development of the ZETag SoC, we have jointly launched a new generation of ZETA wireless technology with the alliance members. The cooperation among the alliance members has enhanced the competitiveness and accelerated the global development of ZETA. In the future, we will also Cross-border cooperation will continue to contribute to the realization of a super-smart society together with alliance members."
