Socionext's next-generation automotive custom chips will use TSMC's 5nm process
Socionext Inc. (hereinafter "Socionext"), a leader in SoC design and application technology, announced that the company will use TSMC's latest 5nm process technology (N5P) for the next-generation automotive custom chip business. Socionext's automotive custom chip solutions are mainly aimed at advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) applications, and the cooperation plans to conduct risk trial production in 2022.
The N5P process is one of TSMC's 5nm process series technologies and is currently the most advanced process technology in the industry. As the production capacity continues to climb, the defect density of N5P decreases faster than the previous generation. N5P is an optimized version of N5. Compared with the previous N7 technology, the performance is improved by 20%, the power consumption is reduced by 40%, and the logic density can be increased by 80%. In addition, N5P is supported by the most comprehensive design ecosystem in the industry.
Noriaki Kubo, Executive Vice President and Head of Automotive and Industrial Division at Socionext, said: "We are delighted to apply TSMC's world-leading N5P technology to our next-generation vehicle development platform. ADAS and autonomous driving require extremely high computing In terms of processing performance, Socionext will leverage TSMC's advanced process technology to help customers develop next-generation automotive electronics. TSMC is an important partner for us, producing chips covering consumer, automotive and other applications."
Dr. Hou Yongqing, Senior Vice President of Sales and Corporate Research, Europe and Asia at TSMC, commented: "Innovative semiconductor technology is critical to accelerating the development of next-generation smart vehicles. This partnership with Socionext demonstrates our commitment to providing world-leading semiconductor technology for our customers. products to achieve maximum value.”
